Ventura FC - The Team

Goalkeeper

Paul Uttley - Most Wanted
Name: Paul Uttley
Squad No#: 1
Position: Goalkeeper
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English
Appearances:4
Clean sheets:1
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Mutters, Gadaffi

Profile:
Having briefly played for the previous Ventura FC set-up alongside brother Andy, Paul Uttley then took over as manager of the now defunct St. Pats team. Also an option as an outfield player (previously as a left-back), Muttley often shows this in his play as he is not afraid to come off his goal line in order to help out his defence. This may lead to the odd 'Fabian Barthez' or 'Grobbelaar' moment but usually he makes up for it by pulling off a subsequent stunning save. Indeed, at several points this season there is little doubt Uttley will be called upon to keep his team in a game.

Name: Graham Collum
Squad No#:
Position: Goalkeeper/Defender
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English
Appearances: 3
Goals: 0
Yellow Cards: 0
Graham Collum
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Angry taxi man

Profile:
Making his debut as goalkeeper for Ventura FC in the pre-season friendly against The Scarisbrick Hotel, Collum has already featured as an outfield player, utilised at left-back against both Lexton Rovers & Legionnaires. A good shot stopper, Collum's style can best be described as that of his look-a-like Bruce Grobbelaar.

Defence

Pete Brock
Name: Peter Brocklebank
Squad No#: 69
Position: Defender
D.O.B.: 04/06/1948
Nationality: English
Appearances:7
Goals: 0
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Bearded Man, Bin-Laden, Peter Sutcliffe, Harold Shipman

Profile:
The bearded man is a new signing for Ventura FC having previously played as right back for the St. Pats team. Determined in the tackle, Mr Brock is often called upon as the last line of defence & his ratio of tackles won is usually as high as any player on the pitch. Also strong in the air, Brock can play either at right back or centre back comfortably. His displays in pre-season have earned him several MOTM votes from his team-mates & his transition into the Ventura team has been met with considerable ease. Omitted from the top scorers poll however, he perhaps isn't going to be Ventura's leading goalscorer, ....but then you never know.

Name: Carl Nolan
Carl Wim Jonk Nolan
Squad No#: 10
Position: Defender
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English
Appearances: 4.5ish
Goals: 0
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Carlito

Profile:
Ventura FC's founder & manager Carl Nolan is also a regular in the team line-up. Carlito deploys himself as either a central midfielder or centre back, although he has actually made appearances in the past for Ventura as goalkeeper. Helped by his build & height, Carl is strong in the air & wins most headers but also has arguably the hardest shot of any player in the team. His Ventura line-ups in the past have often raised eyebrows by beating some of the supposedly 'better' teams around in the local leagues. Another competition Carl entered in addition to the Southport league was the Ormskirk 6-a-side league in which Ventura ended up champions, playing against several former professionals along the way. Indeed, in that particular competition they remained unbeaten throughout. Carlito's aim for the 2011/2012 season will undoubtedly be to add the 3rd division title to Ventura FC's list of honours.

Name: Robbie Trecharichi
Squad No#:
Position: Defender
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English
Appearances:7
Goals: 0
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Robbie, ...original that. Nudehead maybe?

Profile:
Probably Ventura's most experienced Southport league player, Robbie Trecharichi may not be the pacey, greedy never-going-to-pass-in-a-million-years type striker that he as an 18yr old was but has evolved (as Darwin would say) into a more complete & technical player. Whilst he has collected numerous trophies over the years, he would like to add more silverware this year. He still retains his John-Arne Riise powerful left foot & can score goals from some distance & he is also a cool penalty taker.

Name: Matty Herron
Squad No#:
Position: Defender
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English
Appearances:5
Goals: 0
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.:1
Nickname: unknown, probably something to do with ginger hair

Profile:
Matty is a new addition to the Ventura team for the 2011/2012 season. Although tall & strong in the air, Matty also likes to play football on the deck & where possible will bring the play forward out of defence. Made his debut against the Scarisbrick & looked accomplished, helping Ventura to their first clean sheet of the season.

Name: Dan O'Malley
Dan the Musketeer
Squad No#: 2
Position: Defender/Midfielder
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English
Appearances:6
Goals: 0
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Musketeer?

Profile:
Still a student yet able to drive round in Audi A3, you could also be forgiven for mistaking Dan for one of the Three Musketeers. Once on Preston FC's radar, Dan is an accomplished player with good technique & composure on the ball. Dan was a member of the Holgate team last season that won the 2nd division. After being stung £70 for training equipment he is happier now with his more affordable Ventura t-shirt. These are hard times for students.

Midfield

Name: David Conkling
Squad No#: 17
Position: Midfielder
D.O.B.: 22/03/1979
Nationality: English
Appearances:7
Goals:2
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Hero, Champion, Winner

Profile:
Experienced in the Southport & Liverpool leagues, Conkling's previous teams include 3rd division title winning Hartwood FC & Christ the King Old Boys XI. Conkling came through into senior football via a strong Birkdale Utd U-16s team. After making his debut for Hartwood at 16, Conkling then took a sabbatical before re-joining Hartwood's 3rd division winning side & then going on to play for IGC in the Preston Premier League. The following season he signed for Ventura (then in their 2nd season) & briefly played for the St. Pats team under Paul Uttley. Can also play in a variety of positions although usually plays in centre-midfield.

Christian in action
Name: Christian Matthews
Squad No#:                          Position: Midfielder
D.O.B.:
Nationality:English
Appearances:7
Goals:0
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: unknown

Profile:
Captain of Ventura FC, Christian is now one of the club's longest serving players & vastly experienced. Christian is excellent in the air & wins virtually every header although notably he has a very strong left foot & is dangerous from set pieces. Although perhaps now his pace is not quite what it used to be, he always has a selection of scooters readily available to assist the odd venture down the wing.

Name: Ian Palfrey
Scholesy on BBC daytime tv
Squad No#:
Position: Midfielder
D.O.B.:
Nationality:English
Appearances:4
Goals:0
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Scholesy

Profile:
After playing in the same youth team as Phil Neville, Ian Palfrey (aka Scholesy) then made the wise decision to switch to playing for the Ventura team whilst Phil played in the lower leagues for minnows Man Utd & Everton. A player with very quick feet who can turn on a sixpence, his playing style strangely enough is similar to that of the now-retired Paul Scholes. His worst moment in a Ventura shirt however came when he broke his leg & was subsequently sidelined for the better part of two years. Fresh from his injury however, after his appearance on BBC's Save My Holiday, Scholesy will most likely be in the running for Ventura FC's player of the season again.

Rizgar in Action
Name: Rizgar Mahmood
Squad No#:
Position: Midfielder
D.O.B.:
Nationality: Iraq
Appearances:6
Goals:1
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Risco, Riz

Profile:
Rizgar is another of Ventura's newcomers for the 2011/2012 season. Initially spotted playing on astroturf pitches where he especially likes to push players into the fencing, Rizgar is a strong, powerful attacking player who usually comes out on top in any physical battle. As editor of this website, I'll be very careful what I type about the hairdresser from Iraq.

Name: Jason (italian surname of some sort)
Squad No#:
Position: Winger
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English/Italian
Appearances:3
Goals:2
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Luigi, Mario?

Profile:
Pinched from the Scarisbrick team, Jason is a pacey winger who links up well with Allison Frank & has already chipped in with a couple of goals. His first goal for Ventura was an unstoppable pea roller against Formby Dons Res. Deployed so far on the right-wing, Jason is definitely a good prospect for the rest of the season.

Name: Paul Leigh
Paul Leigh scores
Squad No#: 5
Position: Midfielder
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English
Appearances:4
Goals:1
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.:1
Nickname: Vidic, Bad Paul Leigh, Ranger Smith

Profile:
Probably the most high pitched voice on the playing field, Ranger Smith, ...sorry, Paul Leigh, is arguably Ventura FC's most skillful footballer. With more tricks up his sleeve than Paul Daniels, Leigh is difficult for any defence to play against. Alongside his trickery however is a good eye for goal & a powerful shot. MOTM in pre-season against Legionnaires, Leigh will be hoping for more of the same this season.

Name: Adam Lang
Squad No#:
Position: Midfielder
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English
Appearances:4
Goals:should be 1 but he missed a 1v1
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Langy

Profile:
Langy has actually featured for Ventura FC before but this season will be looking for a more involved role with the new look team. A tireless worker, Adam tends to be a box-to-box type midfielder who closes down the opposition & wins the ball. An all round sportsman who also enjoys water polo & golf. Also known for being somewhat loud & not very subtle.

Name: Allison Frank
Squad No#:
Position: Midfielder
D.O.B.:
Nationality: Portuguese
Appearances:4
Goals:4
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Ali

Profile:
To add to Ventura's multi-cultural outlook, Allison Frank brings some Portuguese flair to the side with his mazy runs & skills a plenty. A debutant for the side in pre-season, Ali was then able to make his debut in the win against Chatsworth. He was spotted by Ventura's scouting department, aka the Orang-Utan, & could turn out to be one of the key players in Ventura's season.

Attack

Name: Mike Hand
Mike's Hand in Action
Squad No#: 7
Position: Striker
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English
Appearances:5
Goals:4
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Handy

Profile:
Signed for the previous Ventura FC team following appearances for several other Southport league teams, including the Scarisbrick Hotel, Mike Hand has become one of the highest goalscorers in Ventura's history. Good in the air as well as on the deck, his versatility also means he is not restricted simply to a striker role, having played on the left-wing in pre-season. Having already bagged a hat-trick in pre-season, he is already being tipped to be Ventura FC's leading goalscorer in 2011/2012. If accomplished, this will go alongside his previous top goalscorer & player's player of the year awards. A Handy player to have in your team.

Matty Slocombe at Anfield
Name: Matty Slocombe
Squad No#:
Position:Striker/Goalkeeper
D.O.B.:24/06/2001
Nationality: English
Appearances:5
Goals:1
Conceded:
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Matty, Slocs, Pint of Coke Sloc

Profile:
Matty is a new option for Ventura in attack this season & brings pace to the team. Can be deployed either as a winger or as a striker, Matty will be looking to grab goals a plenty this season & if possible challenge for the club's top goalscorer honour. As a coach himself, Matty is no stanger to grass roots football. When he covers the Uefa tutorial on the passing game, he should get even better. UPDATE: (6/11/2011) Now enjoying a new lease of life as Ventura's first choice goalkeeper. Matty has a hidden talent & is still challenging for top goalscorer as he continues to punch the ball into his own net.

Name: Mike Porter
Squad No#:
Position: Striker
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English
Appearances:3
Goals:0
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Mike or Porter

Profile:
Mike is one of the original Ventura strikers & has scored some of the best goals in the club's history. Pacey with good finishing, Mike is a difficult proposition for any defender. A secondary school P.E. teacher, Mike keeps himself in shape so fitness should never be an issue. UPDATE: Gone AWOL.

Joey Lea
Name: Joey Lea
Squad No#: 23
Position: Striker
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English
Appearances:3
Goals:0
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Carragher, Baby Kangaroo

Profile:
Another new striking option for the current season, Ventura's number 23 Joey Lea is a rare breed. Has much in common with England star Wayne Rooney in that he was once a boyhood Everton fan only to become a Man Utd fan later on. "Once a blue, always a .....?"

Name: Jamie Dalton
Squad No#: 17 (number thief!)
Position:Striker/Winger
D.O.B.:
Nationality: English
Appearances:2
Goals:6
Yellow Cards: 0
Red Cards: 0
M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname: Elmander

Profile:
One of Venura's latest acquisitions, Jamie signed from The Ship FC after the irresistable opportunity to play for Ventura presented itself. Jamie is blessed with ridiculous pace, skill, & an eye for goal that makes him a highly sought after Southport league player. His history includes being part of the same Hartwood FC team that included Trecharichi & Conkling. 4 goals on his debut & scoring with his first ever touch for Ventura, ...simply not good enough. Needs to pull his socks up!

Name: Chris Atherton
Squad No#:
Position:Striker

Yellow Cards: 0

M.O.T.M.: 0
Nickname

Profile:
Having previously played for Southport Trinity, Chris (like several other members of the squad) has come out of retirement to aid Ventura's cause. Can play in midfield but has been deployed as a striker for Ventura. Chris brings much needed ariel prescence to the side but can also play on the deck. A keen marathon runner, 3&1/2hrs time for the Liverpool marathon, Chris will probably not find fitness to be as much of an issue as certain other players in the squad.

Name: Chris Ball

Profile:
Another of the old Hartwood set-up, Chris then moved amid much controversy to play for Dell Rangers & also Fleetwood Hesketh alongside Jamie Dalton. Chris is usually deployed as a target man up front & is formidable in the air. Now a copper bastard Chris enjoys locking up smackheads in his spare time.

Name: Tom Foley
Squad No#: Unsure again

MOTM:
Nickname: Diving Hero

Profile:
The latest addition to the ranks at Ventura FC, the Bootle player has made an instant impact at Ventura & settled into his role, which usually consists of bringing the ball down, weaving in & out of about 5 players before being hacked down in the box. Good in the air, good on the deck. Opposition defenders find him difficult to deal with to say the least.
